“I M P R O V I S A T I O N S”

The Awakening of the Ceative Flow

Workshop with

R O B E R T   P O B I T S C H K A

Improvisation is the personal and spontaneous expression of moods and emotions with the means at one's disposal. These unprepared statements are a key to the depths of our subconscious mind and the cosmos. Great artists say, that art does not follow the rules but the rules follow art. After all, many great works of art are created just for this ease of receiving information from the depths of our being in the moment. Intellect or technique play a secondary role.

The composer and pianist Robert Pobitschka attempts during this workshop, to open the participants to receive inspiration and to have the courage to express themselves. Introductory exercises shall establish a state of relaxation and allow the exploration of inner space. During improvisations, participants will be asked, to allow artistic impulses and ideas to express spontaneously. Everyone is free to make use of any form of artistic expression: Participants can paint, write, dance, photograph, sing or simply let images or sensations manifest in their consciousness. For some improvisations Robert Pobitschka will try to inspire participants with piano and organ music, other exercises take place as group work. In subsequent discussions, the results will be discussed and their contents will be explored. There will be discussions in how far these results fulfil the requirements of common artistic forms. The workshop addresses everybody who has the urge to express themselves artistically. Painters among the participants are asked to bring their own painting materials. Musicians shall bring their instruments.

The venue Drosendorf with its historic townscape is one of the most atmospheric and fabulous cities in the Austrian Waldviertel.  Participants in past seminars and workshops have been touched by it’s incomparable magic and experienced its special "vibrations". In the large forest area around the river Thaya walks can be taken also in the winter months to find peace and healing.

"I m p r e s s i o n i s m  -

T h e   a r t   of   e t h e r e a l   m o m e n t s"

Docent/Pianist

Robert Pobitschka

The seminar is open to everybody who loves music and the arts -  specialist knowledge is not required. During the musical performances - piano music by Debussy and Ravel as well as improvisations - all participants are invited to spontaneously express their ideas and feelings through drawing, writing, painting or dancing or whatever they choose to do. Participants are welcome to bring photographs, texts, paintings or choreographies matching the theme as an inspiration for the improvisations on the piano. Who does not want to do this can simply sit and listen to the music. Pianists among the participants have the opportunity to foster their knowledge of interpretation of Debussy’s and Ravels’ piano music.

The seminar includes lectures and discussions highlighting the history of ideas of Impressionism, opening the sphere of these ideas and dealing with the question in how far people in our modern, concrete and materialistic times can be open to subtle and ethereal vibrations, to the "inner tone" of things, as described by the Impressionists.

LIVE  RECORDINGS  OF  THE  ORGAN  IMPROVISATIONS:

Both artists improvise simultaneously on:

„Impressions from the river Thaya“

    Entrance  € 16.  -  advance sale: € 14.- under tel.: +43 - (0)2915-2213 or Email: Gemeinde@Drosendorf.gv.at

The programme of this evening are improvisations - artistic ideas showing up at the moment are spontaneously woven into a fabric of  sounds and colour.

The first improvisation on Saint Valentina. Her relic - meaning her entire sceleton, origianlly in a grave down in the catacombs in Rome - was presented to Count Lamberg, the Habsburg ambassador to the Vatican by the Pope and brought to Drosendorf in the 18th century. Until today Valentina has her place in St. Martin Town Church and helps visitors to expand their imaginations to ancient Rome and early Christanity.

In the 6th century monks from Egypt founded one of the first monasteries in Ireland, located on Skellig Michael, a tiny, small island, two hours by boat from the west coast, surrounded by the rough Atlantic Ocean. The monks believed the place was already close to the end of the world, close to the abyss. Their aim was to finish their existence on earth. The perspective of timelessness will be one main element of the improvisation.

The third improvisations will be dedicated to the river Thaya in Drosendorf.
